Chi Star House, a Cantonese cuisine restaurant specializing in traditional Chinese dishes, is seeking a Restaurant Supervisor to oversee front-of-house operations and ensure the efficient delivery of high-quality customer service. The Supervisor will coordinate staff, monitor daily workflows, uphold food quality and safety standards, and support management in maintaining a smooth and welcoming dining environment. This role requires strong leadership abilities, knowledge of restaurant operations, and the capacity to work in a fast-paced, multicultural setting.
Job Duties
- Supervise, coordinate, and schedule the activities of servers, hosts, bussers, and other front-of-house staff.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels during peak hours and adjust schedules to maintain service efficiency.
- Assist in staff hiring, onboarding, and training, including educating employees on service procedures and restaurant standards.
- Oversee the dining room to ensure smooth daily service and a positive customer experience.
- Greet customers, manage seating flow, and respond promptly to guest inquiries or concerns.
- Resolve customer complaints professionally and implement corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure food prepared and served meets restaurant quality standards, including portion accuracy, presentation, and temperature.
- Work closely with kitchen staff to coordinate order flow, address service delays, and maintain communication during peak periods.
- Monitor cleanliness and sanitation of dining areas, service stations, and washrooms in accordance with Ontario health and safety regulations.
- Enforce hygiene, safety, and workplace policies among all front-of-house employees.
- Assist in ordering and inventory management for front-of-house supplies such as beverages, condiments, utensils, and packaging materials.
- Track stock levels and report shortages to management proactively.
- Help maintain records of daily operations, including shift reports, incident logs, and customer feedback.
- Support cash handling procedures, including balancing cash registers and verifying receipts.
- Coordinate special menu promotions, seasonal offerings, or holiday service adjustments as directed by management.
Skills Requirements
- Completion of college diploma in hotel or restaurant management is preferred.
- 1 to 2 years work experience in restaurant management.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to supervise and motivate a diverse team.
- Strong problem-solving ability and customer service orientation.
- Knowledge of safe food-handling practices and provincial health and safety standards.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with numbers and budgets.
- Speak, read, and write English.
